Recently, I’ve had the pleasure of writing for a few local organizations I care a lot about. (You’ll notice that the things I care about are heavily weighted toward books and birds, because they are the best. Especially when combined in this incredible stock photo of a bookish owl.)
I wrote about my experience volunteering for Madison Reading Project, a really great nonprofit that distributes free books to kids throughout south central Wisconsin. (Yes, free books! One of the best phrases in the English language!) You can read my piece in MRP’s April newsletter.
I’ve also started contributing Facebook posts for the Dane County Humane Society’s Wildlife Center. (Did you know this existed? I didn’t, until last fall. Now, as a volunteer, I help feed orphaned baby birds. It’s amazing.) A couple of my posts have gone up so far–one about my very talented co-volunteer, and one about a lonely house finch hatchling.
Last but not least, I wrote a short blog post for the Wisconsin chapter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators, which you can read here.
I also care a lot about baked goods, so if you know of any bakeries in Madison that need writers, let me know. I’ll work for samples.
